What Is Tiny Radars?

TinyRadars is a small DIY record label in Western Massachusetts that was founded in 2011. For the first five years we put out tiny releases of bands we love in the formats we love best: vinyl and digital and encouraged our artists to license their releases under Creative Commons. Like many musicians and music fans who feel called to DIY/DIT culture, we put all the profits earned from any of our ventures back into the label itself.

TRs now serves as a space for the occasional release too good to not be involved in. Our commitment to exclusively vinyl releases has softened in our older age. We don’t know what the future holds. We aren’t even totally sure who WE are.

Why Physical Media Is Still Great

It feels better to hold in your hands. It’s a tactile canvas for artwork. It makes a great gift, is fun to collect, and will still be around after Google, Microsoft and Apple’s servers vanish, break, get put behind paywalls, or whatever else.

There are a lot of good things about music in the 21st century. It’s easier than ever for us to make it, share it with lots of people and build networks with people from all across the country. Digital is great. But it isn’t everything. We want to make sure that our music culture is preserved on some small level in the physical world.
